In Saturday’s game, we’ll be seeing lefty Eduardo Rodriguez for the Red Sox. In his 15 starts and 2-6 record this year, Rodriguez owns a 4.83 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP in 82 innings. Rodriguez was solid in his last outing in Oakland, going eight innings with one hit and no earned.
The Red Sox don’t have much to complain about at the plate. Mookie Betts has logged 187 hits with 107 runs, 30 homers and 101 RBI. Dustin Pedroia holds 179 hits with 92 runs and 64 RBI. Xander Bogaerts has hit 171 times with 100 runs and 81 RBI.
Over on the Blue Jays’ side, we’ll get another look at lefty JA Happ on Saturday. Across 27 starts and a 17-4 record this year, Happ has logged a 3.34 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP in 164.1 innings. Happ wasn’t able to do much in his last start in Tampa, going just 2.2 innings with three runs and six hits.
Toronto has some great hitters as well. Josh Donaldson has 147 hits with 109 runs, 34 homers and 92 RBI. Edwin Encarnacion has hit 139 times with 87 runs, 37 homers and 112 RBI. Kevin Pillar holds 126 hits with 52 runs and 48 RBI.
The Red Sox are 4-0 in their last four Saturday games, and 7-1 in their last eight game twos of a series. Boston is also 13-3 in their last 16 games against a left-handed starter, and 1-4 in Rodriguez’s last five starts.
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays are 5-1 in their last six games against a left-handed starter, and 1-4 in their last five game twos of a series. Toronto is also 4-0 in Happ’s last four starts with five days’ rest, and 20-6 in Happ’s last 26 starts.
I like Happ in the pitching matchup here, and if he can get off to a good start Toronto has a solid chance to get the victory.
