The Washington Nationals and the rival Philadelphia Phillies conclude their series in DC.
The Philadelphia Phillies are improved over past seasons but know they need a few more bats. Bats were needed Saturday in a 3-0 loss at Washington that squandered some great work on the mound. Phils starter Jerad Eichoff was at the top of his game with five scoreless frames before Patrick Schuster served up a three run bomb to Bryce Harper in the 8th. Philadelphia was held to five hits and a base on balls with Cesar Hernandez logging a pair of singlesAdam Morgan draws Sunday’s start against the Nationals who he will oppose for the 4th time this year. Morgan comes off a 4-3 win at Miami with a run given up over six innings.

The Washington Nationals have been pushing hard to capture the National League East crown. The Nationals continued to push Saturday behind outstanding work on the mound and a big 8th inning at the plate. Nats starter Max Scherzer tossed 6.2 shutout innings and struck out eight with three relievers putting up zeros. Washington totaled eight hits and three walks with Bryce Harper clubbing a three run jack in the 8th that scored Ben Revere and Daniel Murphy. Left hander Gio Gonzalez toes the rubber versus the Phillies on Sunday afternoon. Gonzalez did not get a decision in a 9-7 win versus Atlanta with six runs plated in just three frames.
Philadelphia are 3-8 in their last 11 overall and are 3-8 in their last 11 games on grass while going 7-19 in Morgan’s last 26 starts. The over is 10-3-1 in Washington’s last 14 home games and Washington are 2-6 in their last 8 Sunday games. Philadelphia are 1-10 in the last 11 meetings and the under is 6-2-1 in Gonzalez’s last 9 starts versus Philadelphia. I’ll back the Nationals once again…
