The Texas Rangers and Houston Astros continue their pivotal series in Houston on Tuesday after the two sides played to extra innings last night.
The Texas Rangers look to add another to the win column as they continue their set with their instate and division rivals from Houston and after a close affair last night I think they can anticipate more of the same here as they send AJ Griffin to the mound to face off with Brad Peacock. The Rangers are just 5-5 over their last 10 games and have slipped a little bit in the race for top spot in the American League but they still have their sights set on a division crown and for that number one seed and a win here against the Astros would move them closer to that goal. Griffin is 7-4 with a 4.92 ERA while Peacock is 0-0 with a 3.37 mark and will be out for his first victory of the season at a pivotal juncture for his team.

The Astros head into this one sitting 3.5 games back in the AL wild card race and need to make up some ground on the rest of the pack and will have their work cut out for them here against the Rangers who have a commanding 10 game lead on the rest of the pack in the AL West and while Griffin is a front end starter and has the numbers to back it up he is still serviceable and should give the Rangers the edge here. Houston is a very impressive 22-9 in their last 31 games against the AL West and that includes their mark against these Rangers which very few teams in the league can say so if there is anything to hang on to heading into tonight’s game it could be their recent success against division rivals.
The Rangers 1-4 in their last five games against a team with a winning record, 6-2 in Griffin’s last eight games on grass, and 1-4 in their last five games against a righty while the Astros are 1-4 in their last five overall, 1-6 in their last seven home games against a team with a winning record, and 4-9 in Peacock’s 13 starts. This is a competitive series and while I love the value on the Rangers here and I do think they are the better team, the Astros need this one in a big way and I think they get it done.
