On the Rays’ side, we’ll be seeing lefty Drew Smyly on Tuesday. Over 27 starts and a 6-11 record, Smyly owns a 5.05 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP in 158.2 innings. Smyly put up 3.2 innings with seven hits and five runs in his last start against the Orioles.
The Rays have got some nice hitters at their disposal. Evan Longoria leads the way with 153 hits, 72 runs, 32 homers and 86 RBI. Logan Forsythe has 122 hits with 68 runs and 48 RBI. Brad Miller has turned in 121 hits with 65 runs, 28 homers and 71 RBI.
As for the Blue Jays, they’re bringing out Marcus Stroman on Tuesday. Over 28 starts and a 9-7 record this year in 178 innings, Stroman holds a 4.55 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP. In his last outing, Stroman went five innings with seven hits and two earned against the Yankees for a loss.
Toronto has some great hitters on their roster as well. Josh Donaldson is out front on 147 hits with 112 runs, 34 homers and 92 RBI. Edwin Encarnacion has hit 142 times with 90 runs, 39 homers and 115 RBI. Kevin Pillar holds 128 hits with 52 runs and 48 RBI.
The Rays are 6-0 in Smyly’s last six starts on astroturf, and 6-2 in Smyly’s last eight starts overall. Tampa Bay is also 15-6 in Smyly’s last 21 starts versus the AL East, and 1-6 in Smyly’s last seven road starts.
The Blue Jays are 4-0 in their last four home games versus a left-handed starter, and 6-1 in their last seven games overall versus a left-handed starter. Toronto is also 7-3 in their last 10 Tuesday games, and 4-0 in Stroman’s last four home starts.
The pitching matchup here is pretty solid, so this should be a pretty low-scoring game. That said, I like Stroman and the Blue Jays to take the victory here.
