On Wednesday in MLB activity from Nationals Park, the New York Mets and the Washington Nationals will be wrapping up their series.
On Monday, the Nationals secured a big 8-1 win. In Tuesday’s game, the Mets evened it up with a 4-3 win in 10 innings.
USA TODAY Sports
Making the start for the Mets on Wednesday will be RHP Robert Gsellman. Over four games (three starts) and a 2-1 record, Gsellman has a 3.92 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP in 20.2 innings. In his most recent outing, Gsellman put up a no-decision against the Braves with five innings, seven hits and four earned.
It’s easy to find the big hitters in the Mets order. Asdrubal Cabrera has hit 127 times with 58 runs and 48 RBI. Yoenis Cespedes has 121 hits with 64 runs, 30 homers and 79 RBI. Neil Walker has bagged 116 hits with 57 runs, 23 homers and 55 RBI.
Over on the Nationals’ side, we’ll be getting another look at Tanner Roark on Wednesday. Over 30 games (29 starts) and a 14-8 record, Roark owns a 2.85 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP in 186.1 innings. Roark took a no-decision his last time out with six innings, six hits and one earned against Philadelphia.
The Nationals have some great hitters in their order as well. Daniel Murphy has hit 180 times with 88 runs, 25 homers and 102 RBI. Anthony Rendon holds 142 hits with 84 runs and 76 RBI. Wilson Ramos is sitting on 136 hits with 54 runs, 20 homers and 77 RBI.
The Mets are 4-0 in their last four game threes of a series, and 2-6 in their last eight Wednesday games. New York is also 8-2 in their last 11 overall, and 10-3 in their last 13 road games.
Meanwhile, the Nationals are 53-24 in their last 77 Wednesday games, and 6-1 in Roark’s last seven starts against the NL East. Washington is also 5-1 in Roark’s last six game threes of a series, and 16-5 in Roark’s last 21 starts.
I like Roark to come out and pitch well here, putting the Nationals in a good position to get a finale victory.
