On Thursday from Citizens Bank Park, the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Philadelphia Phillies will be closing out their MLB series.
This will be the fourth game of the set. Philly won 6-2 on Monday, and Pittsburgh took one 5-3 on Tuesday. In Wednesday’s game, the Phillies logged a 6-2 win.

On Thursday, the Pirates will be bringing out RHP Chad Kuhl for the start. Over 10 starts and a 3-3 record, Kuhl owns a 4.09 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP in 50.2 innings. Kuhn took a loss his last time out against St. Louis with two innings, four hits and three runs.
Pittsburgh has some solid hitters at their disposal. Starling Marte has logged 151 hits with 71 runs and 46 RBI. Josh Harrison owns 138 hits with 57 runs and 59 RBI. Andrew McCutchen has hit 131 times with 72 runs, 21 homers and 63 RBI.
Over on the Phillies’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Jerad Eickhoff on Thursday. In 29 starts and a 10-13 record this year, Eickhoff owns a 3.73 ERA with a 1.21 WHIP in 173.2 innings. Eickhoff settled for a no-decision his last time out against Washington, going six innings with five hits and no earned.
The Philadelphia hitters aren’t too bad either. Odubel Herrera has hit 144 times with 73 runs and 42 RBI. Cesar Hernandez holds 140 hits with 59 runs and 36 RBI. Maikel Franco has bagged 129 hits with 56 runs, 22 homers and 75 RBI.
The Pirates are 4-1 in their last five Thursday games, and 1-5 in their last six game fours of a series. Pittsburgh is also 4-1 in Kuhl’s last five road starts, and 7-3 in Kuhl’s last 10 starts overall.
Meanwhile, the Phillies are 1-5 in their last six game fours of a series, and 5-2 in Eickhoff’s last seven starts. Philadelphia is also 1-5 in Eickhoff’s last six starts with four days’ rest, and 5-2 in Eickhoff’s last seven starts on grass.
This should be a pretty good pitching matchup, but I’m not too keen on the Pirates lately. I’ll take the Phillies for the series-ending win.
