One of the MLB’s greatest rivalries will continue on Friday from historic Fenway Park, as the New York Yankees visit the Boston Red Sox.
In Thursday’s opener, the Red Sox scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth to secure a 7-5 win.

Pitching for the Yankees on Friday will be RHP Luis Cessa. In 13 games (five starts) this year, Cessa holds a 4.34 ERA with a 1.11 WHIP in 47.2 innings. Cessa took a loss against the Rays his last time out with 5.2 innings, five hits and four earned.
The Yankees have some noteworthy hitters on their roster. Starlin Castro has put up 148 hits with 61 runs, 21 homers and 67 RBI. Didi Gregorius holds 137 hits with 63 runs and 65 RBI. Jacoby Ellsbury is sitting on 135 hits with 66 runs and 52 RBI.
Over on the Red Sox side, we’ll be seeing RHP Clay Buchholz in the starting role Friday. Over 34 games (18 starts) and a 6-10 record, Buchholz has a 5.31 ERA with a 1.40 WHIP in 120.1 innings. Buchholz got beat up in a no-decision against the Blue Jays his last time out, giving up four hits and six earned in three innings.
Boston has some great hitters on their side as well. Mookie Betts has 192 hits with 109 runs, 30 homers and 105 RBI. Dustin Pedroia has bagged 187 hits with 97 runs and 66 RBI. Xander Bogaerts sits on 176 hits with 105 runs and 85 RBI.
The Yankees are 7-1 in their last eight game twos of a series, and 5-1 in their last six Friday games. New York is also 4-1 in Cessa’s last five starts, and 4-1 in Cessa’s last five starts on grass.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox are 6-1 in their last seven Friday games, and 7-3 in their last 10 game twos of a series. Boston is also 4-1 in Buchholz’s last five starts, and 7-15 in Buchholz’s last 22 starts in game two of a series.
This should be a great game, and a great series. I’ll take Cessa and the Yankees to get a hard-fought win here.
