As for the Indians, they played the White Sox this week. Cleveland dropped the first two games, but got a win on Wednesday. In the Thursday finale, Chicago secured a 2-1 win on a walk-off.
Pitching for the Tigers on Friday will be RHP Michael Fulmer. In his 23 starts and 10-6 record so far, Fulmer owns a 2.76 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP in 143.2 innings. Fulmer took a no-decision against the Orioles in his last start, going seven innings with three hits and two earned.
Detroit has some solid hitters at their disposal this year. Miguel Cabrera has put up 166 hits with 79 runs, 33 homers and 91 RBI so far. Ian Kinsler sits on 160 hits with 105 runs, 26 homers and 78 RBI. Victor Martinez has put up 150 hits with 58 runs, 24 homers and 76 RBI.
Over on the Indians’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Corey Kluber in the starting role Friday. Over 29 starts and a 16-9 record this year, Kluber owns a 3.05 ERA with a 1.04 WHIP in 197.2 innings. Kluber bagged a win over Minnesota his last time out, going seven innings with four hits and no earned.
Cleveland doesn’t slouch at the plate either. Francisco Lindor has managed 178 hits with 92 runs and 70 RBI. Jose Ramirez has hit 159 times with 78 runs and 67 RBI. Jason Kipnis sits on 154 hits with 82 runs, 22 homers and 77 RBI.
The Tigers are 7-2 in their last nine Friday games, and 19-7 in their last 26 game ones of a series. Detroit is also 10-3 in Fulmer’s last 13 road starts, and 16-5 in Fulmer’s last 21 starts.
As for the Indians, they’re 25-5 in their last 30 Friday games, and 4-0 in their last four home games following a road trip of seven or more days. Cleveland is also 7-0 in Kluber’s last seven starts with four days’ rest, and 4-0 in Kluber’s last four Friday starts.
This should be a great matchup, and a very close game. I like Kluber just a little better here, though, so I’ll take Cleveland for the win.
