The Washington Nationals hope to move a step closer to the East title by beating the Atlanta Braves Sunday.
The Washington Nationals have been red hot as they can almost smell the National League East title. The Nationals had won eight of ten but were cooled off for a day in Saturday’s7-3 defeat at Atlanta where neither the arms or bats were strong. Nats starter Gio Gonzalez fell to 11-10 with six runs scoring on nine hits over 4.1 frames. Washington managed seven hits and walked four times with Trea Turner going deep twice while Jason Werth drove in Ben Revere. Mat Latos is scheduled to be on the hill versus the Braves if his hamstring is 100%. Latos did not get a decision in an 8-1 win against the Mets with the lone run scoring on three hits over 4.1 innings.

The rebuilding Atlanta Braves have bee slumping the past few weeks as the long season has taken a toll. The Braves had lost eight of ten heading in to Saturday’s bout with Washington but rose to the occasion with the work on the mound and at the plate getting on the same page. Bravos starter Josh Collmenter improved to 2-0 with two runs allowed on solo homers through five innings. Atlanta pounded out 13 hits and walked twice with Nick Markakis and Anthony Rendon driving in two runs each while Ender Inciarte and Adonis Garcia combined for five runs. Matt Wisler toes the rubber against the Nationals for the second time this year. Wisler comes off a 7-5 loss to visiting Miami with eight runs given up on ten hits in 4.1 frames.
The under is 8-1 in Washington’s last 9 road games and is 6-1-1 in their last 8 overall while going 6-1-1 in their last 8 on grass. ATL are 2-8 in their last 10 overall. Atlanta are 2-8 in their last 10 games on grass and the over is 21-8-1 in their last 30 home games. Washington are 7-1 in the last 8 meetings in Atlanta and the over is 13-3-1 in the last 17 meetings. I’m not sure who is pitching for Washington but I’ll back the better squad…
