The Oakland Athletics look to keep the bats hot after an outburst yesterday against the Texas Rangers as the two sides meet up again on Sunday.
The Oakland Athletics haven’t had a lot to smile about this season but they had one of their best games of the year last night on the road against the division leading Rangers and if they can finish out this series on a positive note it should give them some momentum to finish out their schedule. The A’s hung 11 runs on the Rangers yesterday and will be out for more today as they will send Ross Detwiler to the mound who will face off against Colby Lewis who will certainly give the Rangers the edge on the mound as Detwiler hasn’t been great. Oakland is 6-4 in their last 10 games though and should have a ton of confidence heading into this one as the Rangers laid an egg at home for the first time in a long while.
The Rangers have been the class of the AL West all season long and should have no issues playing out the string in first place but they will be after the top seed in the American League and know that going into the playoffs with momentum is very important. The Rangers are out to make amends for last season’s blown lead in the ALDS against the Toronto Blue Jays and they certainly have the personnel in place to get it done and after making moves at the trade deadline the Rangers put themselves in a position to go all in this season and are as good a bet as any to go the distance in the AL.
The A’s are 4-1 in their last five road games, 8-20 in their last 28 Sunday games, and 1-4 in Detwiler’s last five road starts while the Rangers are 5-2 in their last seven overall, 7-2 in Lewis’ last nine starts, and 0-6 in his last six Sunday starts. Oakland got the best of the division leaders last night but the tide turns here as Texas smashes the A’s here.
