The St. Louis Cardinals look to continue their road domination as they extend their series at Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies.
The Cardinals are in hot pursuit of a playoff spot and a road series against the Rockies could be a huge measuring stick for where they end up, and if Monday is any indication the Red Birds are ready for another matchup here. The Cards have been woeful at home this season which is a far cry from where they were a year ago when they had the best home record in baseball, but their play on the road, which is very tough to do in the NL Central, has them in contention for a wild card spot and they look like a group ready to make a playoff run. This isn’t the same makeup we have seen in year’s past for a team that always seems to be in the mix, but the pedigree they have in place seems to be working still and another matchup against the Rockies at Coors should put them in a good position for another win.

The Rockies meanwhile have had an up and down season and while they looked like a contender just after the all-star break they have fallen off since and will have to go back to the drawing board in the offseason if they are going to be a contender next year. The Rockies have always struggled with their starting rotation but they do have a nice crutch to lean on right now as Jon Gray is looking like the real deal and he was sensational in his last start and while they need to add a few more to the mix he does look like a guy that can be a crucial part of a rotation, and while we see De La Rosa here it is nice to have a solid pitcher like Gray in the dugout.
The Cards are 9-4 in their last 13 against the NL West, 9-3 in Wainwright’s last 12 Tuesday starts, and 7-16 in their last 23 against a lefty while the Rockies are 4-1 in their last five home games, 1-4 in their last five Tuesday games, and 4-1 in De La Rosa’s last five starts following a team loss. Colorado could be in tough against Wainwright here and while De La Rosa always pitches well at home I think the balance of the Cards lineup is the difference in another St. Louis win.
