Pitching for the Nationals on Tuesday will be RHP Tanner Roark. In his 31 games (30 starts) and 15-8 record, Roark holds a 2.75 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP in 193.1 innings. Roark bagged a win his last time out against the Mets, going seven innings with three hits and no earned.
It’s not too hard to find good hitters on the Nationals’ order. Daniel Murphy is out front with 184 hits, 88 runs, 25 homers and 104 RBI. Anthony Rendon holds 144 hits with 84 runs and 78 RBI. Wilson Ramos has hit 140 times with 55 runs, 21 homers and 78 RBI.
Over on the Marlins’ side, we’ll be seeing RHP Jose Fernandez in the starting role Tuesday. In his 28 starts and 15-8 record, Fernandez holds a 2.99 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP in 174.1 innings. Fernandez also took a win his last time up, going seven innings with six hits and four earned against Atlanta.
The Marlins have some nice hitters, too. Martin Prado is up top with 176 hits, 68 runs and 70 RBI. Christian Yelich has 162 hits with 73 runs and 94 RBI. JD Realmuto has hit 150 times with 58 runs and 45 RBI.
The Nationals are 3-7 in their last 10 Tuesday games, and 6-0 in Roark’s last six road starts versus a team with a losing record. Washington is also 5-1 in Roark’s last six road starts, and 5-1 in Roark’s last six starts during game two of a series.
As for the Marlins, they’re 1-4 in their last five Tuesday games, and 1-6 in their last seven game twos of a series. Miami is also 32-5 in Fernandez’s last 37 home starts, and 8-2 in Fernandez’s last 10 Tuesday starts.
This pitching matchup is great, so I’ll take the under here—even with the line so low. I’ll give Fernandez and the home-town Marlins a slight edge in the game, though.
