Taking the hill for the Red Sox on Wednesday will be RHP Clay Buchholz. Over his 35 games, 19 starts and a 7-10 record, Buchholz owns a 5.20 ERA with a 1.40 WHIP in 126.1 innings. Buchholz got a win his last time out against the Yankees with six innings, seven hits and two earned.
The Red Sox have some great hitters at their disposal. Mookie Betts has hit 201 times with 115 runs, 31 homers and 108 RBI. Dustin Pedroia holds 191 hits with 99 runs and 67 RBi. Xander Bogaerts has hit 182 times with 111 runs, 20 homers and 88 RBI.
Over on the Orioles’ side, we’ll be seeing Ubaldo Jimenez in the start Wednesday. In his 28 games (23 starts) and 7-11 record, Jimenez has put up a 5.94 ERA with a 1.61 WHIP in 130.1 innings. Jimenez took a no-decision against the Rays his last time out, with seven innings, seven hits and four earned.
Baltimore has some nice hitters as well. Manny Machado has logged 179 hits with 102 runs, 36 homers and 93 RBI to lead the team. Adam Jones sits on 157 hits with 84 runs, 28 homers and 81 RBI. Jonathan Schoop holds 154 hits with 79 runs, 24 homers and 77 RBI.
The Red Sox are 4-1 in Buchholz’s last five starts following a quality start in his last appearance, and 4-0 in Buchholz’s last four starts overall. Boston is also 6-1 in their last seven road games, and 6-0 in their last six overall.
Meanwhile, the Orioles are 4-0 in Jimenez’s last four starts, and 24-5 in Jimenez’s last 29 home starts. Baltimore is also 4-1 in Jimenez’s last five starts against the AL East, and 4-1 in Jimenez’s last five Wednesday starts.
I like Jimenez in the starting pitching matchup here, and he should put the Orioles in a position to win. I’ll take Baltimore in a close game.
