The Washington Nationals butt heads with the Miami Marlins in Wednesday action.
The Washington Nationals still have a shot at catching the Cubs for the best record in baseball but I don’t see that happening. The Nationals fell 1-0 at Miami Tuesday for their 4th straight defeat so they can kiss the best record in baseball goodbye after the bats did nothing. Nats starter Tanner Roark gave up the only run on three hits and three BB over seven frames to absorb the loss. Washington was held to four hits wit Stephen Drew going 2-4. The Nationals are scheduled to start Max Scherzer against the Marlins on Wednesday night. On the season, Scherzer has gone 17-7 in 31 starts with a 0.83 WHIP and 2.76 ERA.

The Miami Marlins improved in 2016 but still need to squeeze more out from the players to compete in the NL East. Following Tuesday’s pitcher’s dual, the Marlins have won three in a row behind ace Jose Fernandez. Fernandez gave up three hits and recorded 12 strikeouts through eight innings. The Fish mustered three hits and a trio of base on balls with Giancarlo Stanton clubbing his 27th long ball. The Marlins hand the ball to Tom Koehler to oppose the Nationals for the 4th time in 2016. Koehler comes off a 4-3 loss at Philadelphia where he gave up two runs in five frames.
The under is 10-2 in Washington’s last 12 road games and is 15-5-1 in their last 21 overall while going 15-5-1 in their last 21 on grass. The under is 14-3-1 in Miami’s last 18 home games and are 1-11 in Koehler’s last 12 Wednesday starts while the over is 5-2-2 in Koehler’s last 9 Wednesday starts. The under is 10-2-1 in the last 13 meetings and is 18-5 in the last 23 meetings in Miami. Scherzer should have the edge but I don’t expect much from them in the playoffs…
