Down at Marlins Park on Monday, the New York Mets and the Miami Marlins will be kicking off their MLB series.
The Marlins are coming off a weekend set against the Braves. Miami dropped the first two and won Saturday’s game. Sunday’s game was cancelled in the wake of tragic news that Marlins star pitcher Jose Fernandez had died in a boating accident early that morning. His death rocked the entire league.

As for the Mets, they just finished against the Phillies. New York won the first two games, lost on Saturday, and on Sunday New York crushed Philly by a whopping 17-0 score.
New York will be bringing out RHP veteran Bartolo Colon on Monday. In 32 games, 32 starts and a 14-7 record, Colon owns a 3.12 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP in 184.1 innings. Colon was solid his last time out in a no-decision against Atlanta, going 6.2 innings with six hits and two earned.
The Mets have a few key hitters on their roster. Asdrubal Cabrera has bagged 140 hits with 64 runs, 23 homers and 59 RBI. Yoenis Cespedes has hit 131 times with 68 runs, 30 homers and 83 RBI. Curtis Granderson sits on 118 hits with 81 runs, 30 homers and 56 RBI.
As for the Marlins, we’ve yet to hear who they’re bringing out to pitch on Monday, as the team has bigger things to concern themselves with right now.
Miami has some solid hitters as well. Martin Prado sits on 179 hits with 68 runs and 73 RBI. Christian Yelich has hit 164 times with 74 runs, 20 homers and 95 RBI. JD Realmuto holds 153 hits with 59 runs and 47 RBI.
The Mets are 25-9 in their last 34 Monday games, and 7-3 in their last 10 game ones of a series. New York is also 10-1 in Colon’s last 11 Monday starts, and 5-2 in Colon’s last seven starts overall.
Meanwhile, Miami is 2-6 in their last eight game ones of a series, and 2-6 in their last eight Monday games. The under is 3-1-2 in the Marlins’ last six game ones of a series, and the under is 16-5-2 in the Marlins’ last 23 home games.
I like the veteran Colon to come out and pitch well here. I’ll take the Mets to get a win in the opener, and it should be a very emotional game.
