The Chicago Cubs look to hit the century mark in the win column as they head into PNC Park to battle with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Cubs have had an extraordinary season and will look to continue their success as they take to the road to face off against a Pirates side that is a full 22 games behind them in the standings and four and a half back of the second wild card spot. Chicago is loaded across the board and have been taking teams down at an historic pace and whether it is their starting rotation, their well balanced lineup, their MVP candidates, or their bullpen they hold a significant edge over most teams and can beat you in a number of different ways. The Cubs will send Kyle Hendricks to the mound who is 15-8 with a spectacular 2.01 ERA and it is unfathomable to think that with those numbers he has somehow lost eight games and he will match up with Chad Kuhl who is 5-3 with a 3.73 ERA and will be out to play spoiler in this one.

The Pirates meanwhile were a consensus playoff team heading into spring training and while they still have a very slim shot at getting a wild card spot they are going to have to turn things up a notch and take down the juggernaut Cubs this week. Pittsburgh is coming off a fiery, high charged game with the Washington Nationals and things don’t get any easier here as the Cubs are out for their 100th victory of the season and have a Cy Young candidate in Hendricks on the hill who has been baffling to hitters all season. The Cubs are big favourites here on the road and for good reason but the Bucs are going to be desperate and need to find another gear here if they’re going to get the win.
The Cubs are 4-0 in Hendricks’ last four Monday starts, 6-2 in his last eight against the NL Central, and 39-16 in their last 55 overall while the Pirates are 7-3 in their last 10 overall, 3-14 in their last 17 home games against a righty, and 7-3 in their last 10 overall. The Pirates are playing well right now but are coming off a loss and I think with the Cubs looking for 100 and for Hendricks to get another win for his Cy Young chances I like Chicago here.
