The Chicago White Sox look to build on their big win at home last night against the Tampa Bay Rays as they send Chris Sale to the hill on Tuesday.
The Tampa Bay Rays got shellacked in the late stages of last night’s game with the White Sox and will look for a better outing here as Alex Cobb will get the ball and have to go pitch for pitch with Sale who is among baseball’s best. The Rays have had a disappointing season as they were expected to make some noise as a dark horse in the American League East, but their once stunning rotation has failed them and Chris Archer gets most of the blame despite his ridiculous strikeout numbers this season. Tampa will look to finish the year off with some momentum but last night’s effort wasn’t any indication of that and now they have a tough task ahead of them as they get Chris Sale pitching at home.

The White Sox had a strong start to the season and looked like they were going to be the team to beat in the AL Central, but a sluggish summer has them well back of the AL wild card chase and they will have to go back to the drawing board in the winter. Chicago does have a great core to work with though as Todd Frazier, Jose Abreu, Adam Eaton, and Brett Lawrie are all still under contract and with Sale and Jose Quintana anchoring the rotation and David Robertson manning the closer’s role this team could be back as early as next season and will be out to finish the year strong.
The Rays are 1-6 in their last seven overall, 2-6 in Cobb’s last eight road starts, and 13-29 in their last 42 road games while the White Sox are 6-0 in Sale’s last six against the AL East, 2-6 in their last eight overall, and 1-5 in Sale’s last six starts. The South Siders are big favourites here and while Cobb is a great arm I don’t think the Tampa Bay bats can get to Sale and I like Chicago to win going away.
