The Line: Houston Astros +115 / Seattle Mariners -125 --- Over/Under: 8.5 See the Latest Odds
The Houston Astros look to build on their 8-4 doubling of the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday when the two sides meet up again on Wednesday.
The Mariners are slowing seeing their grip on a wild card slip away as they dropped a pivotal game on the road against the Astros who have pulled to within a half game of the M’s and 2.5 of the Orioles for the final playoff spot in the league which should set up another exciting game on Wednesday night. Seattle is 83-74 this season which is a pretty serviceable number but many in Washington were expecting more out of this team as they were expected to be a big threat to win the division and while all can be forgotten if they can sneak into the playoffs they have a tough road ahead. Seattle will send James Paxton to the hill here as he will face off against Doug Fister in a game that the oddsmakers think the road team is likely to win, leaving the Astros in a very enticing spot.

The Astros meanwhile were a spring training favourite this season after a nice run last season and with a young roster with superstar talent they have the makeup of a team capable of winning a pennant but they haven’t had a great year out of their starting rotation. The Astros do have a shot at making the playoffs though if they can go on a run here and with the Orioles and Blue Jays mired in a four game set in Toronto this week there is ample opportunity for the wild card teams to make up some ground and set up a very exciting finish to the regular season.
The M’s are 10-2 in their last 12 against the AL West, 4-1 in their last five overall, and 6-13 in Paxton’s last 19 road games while the Astros are 17-4 in their last 21 Wednesday games, 1-4 in their last five against the AL West, and 5-2 in their last seven home games against a lefty. Seattle to me is the deeper team and have the better pitcher here and while the value on Houston is appealing I don’t see them getting it done here.
