Coming up at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees will be finishing up their MLB series.
The Red Sox bagged a win in the opener Tuesday, and in Wednesday’s game Boston had a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth, but New York responded with five runs (four on a grand slam by Mark Teixiera) for a 5-3 win.

Taking the mound for the Red Sox on Thursday will be LHP Henry Owens. In his four starts and 0-1 record this year, Owens holds a 7.79 ERA with a 2.13 WHIP in 17.1 innings. Owens took a loss against Detroit his last time up, going five innings with six hits and eight earned.
Boston has some nice bats in their order. Mookie Betts sits on 211 hits with 119 runs, 31 homers and 112 RBI. Dustin Pedroia holds 198 hits with 104 runs and 74 RBI. Xander Bogaerts has hit 188 times with 113 runs, 20 homers and 88 RBI.
Over on the Yankees’ side, we’ll be seeing lefty CC Sabathia. In his 29 games and 8-12 record, Sabathia holds a 4.02 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP in 172.1 innings. Sabathia put up seven innings in Toronto his last time out, allowing four hits and no earned.
It’s not too hard to find the key hitters in the Yankees order. Starlin Castro has bagged 154 hits with 62 runs, 21 homers and 69 RBI. Didi Gregorius holds 153 hits with 68 runs, 20 homers and 69 RBI. Jacoby Ellsbury has hit 141 times with 68 runs and 55 RBI.
The Red Sox are 5-1 in their last six game threes of a series, and 20-8 in their last 28 against the AL East. Boston is also 20-8 in their last 28 overall and 19-10 in their last 29 road games.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 6-2 in their last eight home games versus a left-handed starter, and 0-4 in their last four game threes of a series. New York is also 8-3 in their last 12 home games, and 4-9 in their last 14 against the American League East.
The Red Sox are playing great baseball right now, and they need these divisional games. That said, I like Sabathia in the pitching matchup and will take the Yankees for the win. Owens simply allows too many baserunners to be successful on a consistent basis.
