The Seattle Mariners continue their pursuit of a playoff spot in the AL as they face off with the Oakland Athletics at home on Friday.
The Athletics look to thrive in the spoiler role as they take on their division rivals in Seattle on Friday night in the second game of their final series and while the A’s will not be going to the playoffs they Mariners are still very much in the mix in the AL Wild card hunt. Oakland has some weapons at their disposal but on the whole they need to regroup and build towards next season as they have some holes in their lineup, but a strong core and a free agent draw could change all of that as they could be back in the playoff hunt next year. Oakland will send Raul Alcantara to the mound as he will face off against Taijuan Walker in a game that badly favours the home side both on the mound and at the plate.

The Mariners meanwhile are right in the mix for a wild card spot but need to win out this weekend and get some help as they are on the outside looking in, but they do get a very favourable final series against an Athletics side that hasn’t had a great season. Seattle has the makeup of a playoff team and could pose problems in a one game playoff show down should they get there, but that step is going to be a tough hill to climb as they know the others are playing desperate baseball and have pretty formidable lineups in their own right.
The A’s are 1-8 in their last nine overall, 0-5 in their last five Friday games, and 1-5 in their last six games against a team with a winning record while the M’s are 5-2 in their last seven overall, 5-1 in their last six Friday games, and 12-5 in their last 17 games against a righty. This is Seattle’s series to lose and with a huge pitching edge on Friday they get it done in a big way.
