Coming up on Saturday from Nationals Park, the MLB is bringing us another installment of the weekend series between the Miami Marlins and the Washington Nationals.
In Thursday’s opener, the Nationals came away with a 7-4 victory.
USA TODAY Sports
Pitching for the Marlins on Saturday will be lefty Wei-Yin Chen. In his 21 starts and 5-4 record this year, Chen has a 5.02 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP in 118.1 innings. In a no-decision against the Braves his last time out, Chen went four innings with four hits and two earned.
Miami has several capable bats in their order. Martin Prado leads the way on 182 hits with 70 runs and 75 RBI. Christian Yelich has bagged 168 hits with 77 runs, 21 homers and 97 RBI. JD Realmuto holds 154 hits with 60 runs and 48 RBI.
Over on the Washington side, we’ll be seeing RHP Tanner Roark in the starting role Saturday. In 33 games, 32 starts and a 15-10 record, Roark holds a 2.86 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP in 204.1 innings. In a loss to the Diamondbacks his last time out, Roark went four innings with four hits and five earned.
The Nationals have some reliable hitters as well. Daniel Murphy holds 184 hits with 88 runs, 25 homers and 104 RBI. Anthony Rendon has hit 153 times with 91 runs and 85 RBI. Wilson Ramos has bagged 148 hits with 58 runs, 22 homers and 80 RBI.
The Marlins are 2-8 in their last 10 game twos of a series, and 1-4 in their last five Saturday games. Miami is also 4-1 in Chen’s last five starts, and 5-0 in Chen’s last five starts versus a team with a winning record.
As for the Nationals, they’re 13-3 in Roark’s last 16 starts versus a team with a losing record, and 8-2 in Roark’s last 10 starts with four days’ rest. Washington is also 8-3 in Roark’s last 11 home starts, and 16-6 in Roark’s last 22 starts.
I like the pitching matchup here on both sides; it should be a relatively low-scoring game. That said, I’ll take Roark and the Nationals to get the victory on Saturday.
