The Texas Rangers look to generate some momentum heading into the postseason as they face off against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.
The Rays have had a very disappointing season and will be not going to the playoffs this season and while they do have some nice parts they have to endure an overhaul if they’re going to get back in the mix in the AL East. Tampa was supposed to contend this season on the strength of their starting rotation but a lackluster season from Chris Archer and the injury bug taking out a few others the Rays were unable to stay relevant and will finish in dead last in the division and with one of the worst records in baseball.

The Rangers meanwhile are the complete opposite as they have clinched the top spot in the American League and will host either the Blue Jays, Orioles, or Tigers in the ALDS as one of those three teams aims for the wild card spot. Texas is built to win this season as they have a ton of depth across the board and a very good starting rotation led by Cole Hamels, and in today’s game they are hoping for a preview of things to come as Martin Perez will get the ball as he looks to play his way onto the playoff roster.
The Rays are 2-8 in their last 10 road games against a lefty, 2-7 in their last nine overall, and 2-5 in their last seven road games while the Rangers are 5-124 in their last 75 home games, 6-2 in their last eight following a loss, and 0-4 in their last four Sunday games. This game doesn’t matter for the Rangers in any capacity but that doesn’t mean they won’t field a competitive team and they should have no issues getting the win here.
