The Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics meet Friday in MLB action at Oakland Alameda Coliseum.
The Seattle Mariners look for a bounce back victory after winning five of their last seven games. The Mariners bullpen struggled in Thursday’s loss, and Seattle has allowed five or more runs in nine of its last 14 games. The Seattle Mariners are now just 2-8 this season when allowing more than three runs. Offensively, Mitch Haniger leads Seattle with 20 hits and 15 RBI while Robinson Cano and Nelson Cruz have combined for 31 hits and 20 RBI. Hisashi Iwakuma gets the ball, and he is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA and six strikeouts this season. Iwakuma is 9-5 with a 4.14 ERA and 77 strikeouts in his career against the Athletics.

The Oakland Athletics look for another victory to get a game above a .500 record. The Athletics ave produced 18 runs in their last two games and four or more runs in five of their last eight games. The Oakland Athletics offense is clearly hot right now, and the A’s are 7-3 this season when scoring more than three runs. Khris Davis leads Oakland with 18 hits and 11 RBI while Ryon Healy and Jed Lowrie have combined for 29 hits and 11 RBI. Sean Manaea gets the ball, and he is 0-1 with a 5.51 ERA and 20 strikeouts this season. Manaea is 2-0 with a 4.76 ERA and 15 strikeouts in his career against the Mariners.
The Mariners are 2-8 in their last 10 during game 2 of a series, 6-1 in Iwakumas last 7 Friday starts and 7-2 in their last 9 Friday games. The Athletics are 2-5 in Manaeas last 7 starts during game 2 of a series, 1-4 in Manaeas last 5 starts with 5 days of rest and 1-5 in Manaeas last 6 starts. The Mariners are 5-0 in Iwakumas last 5 road starts vs. Athletics, 20-6 in the last 26 meetings in Oakland and the under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
Besides his last start where he got rocked by the Rangers, Iwakuma has been pretty decent, and he's shutdown this A's lineup to the point he's allowing a .217 batting average on 161 at bats. Manaea has had just one good start out of three this season and some key Seattle hitters have had success against him in limited at bats. The Mariners are simply the better team here and should have won Thursday if it weren't for that bullpen that seems to be a major issue early this season. While they burned me yesterday, I'll take Seattle and the better pitcher for the slight plus money.
