The New York Yankees take the field with the Boston Red Sox in game one of their twin bill in Sunday MLB baseball.
The New York Yankees have been slowly losing games over the past month although injuries have something to do with their slide. The New York Yankees had dropped seven of ten before outlasting the Red Sox 4-1 in 16 innings Saturday. Yanks starter Luis Severino allowed the lone run on four hits and a pair of walks over seven frames before seven relievers put up zeros. New York mustered nine hits and nine walks with Matt Holliday smacking a solo bomb while Didi Gregorius drove in a run and scored. The New York Yankees have scheduled Bryan Mitchell to make his first start of 2017 when he opposes the Boston Red Sox for the third time in his career. Mitchell has made 12 appearance in relief with an ERA of around five but in five starts in September of 2016 his ERA was 3.24.

Job number one for the AL East leading Boston Red Sox is to expand their lead and make things a bit more comfortable. The Red Sox are trying to hold off the hated Yankees and appeared well on their way Saturday before a blown save led to a marathon 16 inning defeat although the offense never got untracked. Boston starter Chris Sale tossed 7.2 scoreless innings and struck out 13 for a no decision when Craig Kimbrel surrendered a solo homer in the 9th to blow the save before Doug Fister was charged with three runs in the 16th to absorb the loss. The Red Sox logged eight hits and four walks with Mitch Moreland driving in Mookie Betts in the third.Rick Porcello toes the rubber Sunday for the Boston Red Sox against the rival New York Yankees in game one of their doubleheader. Porcello comes off of a 1-0 defeat at the Tampa Bay Rays with the only run allowed on six hits over eight frames.
New York are 7-20 in their last 27 overall are 7-20 in their last 27 games on grass while the over is 11-5 in New York last 16 Sunday games. The under is 6-2-1 in Porcello’s last 9 starts overall and Boston are 19-7 in Porcello’s last 26 home starts while the under is 5-2-1 in Porcello’s last 8 on grass. New York are 7-2 in the last 9 meetings.
Mitchell is not really a guy to bet you house on and Porcello as a big favorite isn’t ideal either so maybe a shot with the Yanks…
