The Texas Rangers and the Kansas City Royals clash in the finale of their three game weekend set on Sunday.
The Texas Rangers will look to finish the sweep of the Royals after a narrow 1-0 victory in game two on Saturday. Shin-Soo Choo put the game’s only run on the board in the top of the 9th with an RBI single. Carlos Gomez went 2 for 3 at the plate while Mike Napoli’s lone hit ended up as a triple. Rougned Odor also added a base hit of his own in the win. Cole Hamels threw 7.2 strong innings of four hit, shutout baseball, striking out five, but not factoring in the decision. Jose Leclerc got the win to improve to 2-2 this season while Alex Claudio notched his 3rd save of the year. Yu Darvish will start game three and is 6-8 with a 3.49 ERA and 125 strikeouts this season. In his career, Darvish is 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA and 31 strikeouts against Kansas City.

The Kansas City Royals on the other hand will look to avoid the sweep after their loss in game two on Saturday. Whit Merrifield went 1 for 4 with a double while Jorge Bonifacio, Lorenzo Cain and Brandon Moss added base hits of their own as the Royals mustered up just four hits as a team in the loss. Danny Duffy deserved better after going 8.1 innings giving up just the one run on five hits while striking out four, but ultimately took the loss to fall to 5-6 this season. Ian Kennedy will start the series finale and is 3-6 with a 4.45 ERA and 76 strikeouts this season. In his career, Kennedy is 0-2 with a 3.77 ERA and 27 strikeouts against Texas.
Texas is 0-5 in Darvish’s last 5 starts and 6-1 in their last 7 games overall while the under is 4-0-1 in their last 5 games against a right-handed starter. Kansas City is 5-1 in Kennedy’s last 6 starts and 0-5 in their last 5 games overall while the over is 4-0-1 in Kennedy’s last 5 home starts. Texas is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Kansas City and 16-5 in the last 21 meetings overall.
We cashed in with the Rangers yesterday, and I’m expecting to do the same on Sunday. The Rangers have a slight pitching advantage with Darvish in my opinion, and the Royals are just struggling right now after being one of the hotter teams in baseball heading into the break. Until the Royals turn it around, I have to go with the team in better form, and that’s the Rangers here.
