The Washington Nationals and Cincinnati Reds conclude their MLB baseball series at Great American Ball Park Monday.
The Washington Nationals have not wrapped up the National League East but they are heading in that direction. The Nationals overcame some shaky defense Sunday behind strong pitching and a big offense to defeat Cincinnati 14-4. Nats starter Tanner Roark upped his record to 7-6 with three unearned runs allowed on four hits and three free passes over six innings. Washington racked up 17 hits and three walks with Adam Lind, Jose Lobaton and Anthony Rendon each going deep and combining for seven RBI’s and five runs while Daniel Murphy went deep twice and drove in five. Stephen Strasburg hopes to get back in the win column when the Washington Nationals start him at the Cincinnati Reds Monday. Strasburg comes in off of a 13-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves with six runs scoring (three earned) on seven hits in three frames.

The Cincinnati Reds are in spoiler mode the rest of the season as the year has gotten away from them. The Reds did no spoiling Sunday with both their pitching and hitting coming up short. The Reds dropped their third consecutive contest with starter Homer Bailey allowing eight runs on eight hits including a pair of homers through four innings with Drew Storen and Tony Cingrani giving up five more runs. Cincinnati mustered seven hits and five bases on balls with Scooter Gennett going 2-5 with three runs driven in while Billy Hamilton went 2-5 with a pair of runs. The Cincinnati Red hand Monday’s start versus the visiting Washington Nationals to veteran Scott Feldman. Feldman struggled last time out in a 5-3 defeat at Colorado with four runs given up on five hits including two long balls over five frames.
Washington are 15-7 in their last 22 road games and Washington are 43-12 in Strasburg’s last 55 starts while Washington are 20-7 in Strasburg’s last 27 road starts. The under is 10-1-1 in Cincinnati last 12 overall and the under is 10-1-1 in Cincinnati last 12 on grass while Cincinnati are 9-19 in their last 28 games on grass. The over is 8-3-1 in the last 12 meetings.
This is a game Washington can lose if Feldman is in a groove but I’ll take my chances…
