Up at Target Field on Monday, the New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins will be kicking off their MLB series.
The Yankees are coming off another memorable series versus the rival Red Sox. The two teams split the first pair of games (one a walk-off one-run win and one a 16-inning marathon) then in the doubleheader on Sunday New York won the first game but fell in the nightcap 3-0.

The Yankees have had to mix up their starters a bit over the last few days, so they haven’t announced an arm yet for Monday. We’ll update when they do.
New York has some very nice hitters this year. Aaron Judge came out of the week with 99 hits, 75 runs, 30 homers and 66 RBI. Even with his first-half injury, Starlin Castro still tallied 93 hits, 52 runs, 12 homers and 45 RBI. Castro logged one hit on Sunday night while Judge went 0-for-4.
As for the Twins, they’re fresh off a set against the Astros. Houston and Minnesota split the first pair, then in the Sunday finale the Twins lost 5-3.
Minnesota is putting out lefty Adalberto Meija for the start on Monday. In his 65.0 innings and 4-4 record this year, Meija has a 4.43 ERA with 54 Ks and 32 BBs.
Minnesota has some notable players as well. Brian Dozier had 84 hits, 41 runs, 15 homers and 46 RBI coming out of the week; Miguel Sano had 84 hits, 57 runs, 21 homers and 62 RBI. On Sunday, Dozier logged a hit and a run; Sano came up empty.
The Yankees are 5-1 in their last six Monday games, and 5-16 in their last 21 games versus a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30. The over is 4-0-1 in the Yankees’ last five during game one of a series, and the under is 3-1-1 in New York’s last five Monday games.
Meanwhile, the Twins are 23-51 in their last 74 versus a team with a winning record, and 17-41 in their last 58 home games versus a team with a winning record. The over is 4-0 in the Twins’ last four during game one of a series, and 4-1 in the Twins’ last five Monday games.
Before the break, Meija had a couple of very nice road outings, then stumbled a little bit in his last pair of starts with seven earned on 14 hits over 13.2 total innings against the Angels and Orioles. Overall, Meija has been solid but has also been prone to lousy starts. This is a tough one to call as I don’t completely trust New York these days but I think the Yankees can get it done here.
