MLB baseball comes to SunTrust Park Tuesday where the Atlanta Braves host the Chicago Cubs.
The Chicago Cubs offense had come to life over the weekend at Baltimore but it was their pitching that got the job done Monday in a 4-1 win at Atlanta for their 4th straight victory. Cubbies starter Jon Lester was at his best with the lone run allowed on three hits and a free pass while whiffing six over seven frames to get the win. The Cubs attack consisted of nine hits and four walks with Anthony Rizzo clubbing a solo homer while Ben Zobrist recorded a pair of RBI’s followed by a two run effort from Javier Baez. Veteran right hander John Lackey heads to the bump on Tuesday as the Chicago Cubs take the field with the Atlanta Braves. Lackey did not receive a decision in a 7-3 win versus Tampa Bay last time out with all three runs allowed on six hits over six frames.

The Atlanta Braves have a shot at a winning record which would be a solid accomplishment. The Braves were playing well with three consecutive victories before their offense fell silent in Monday’s defeat at the hands of the visiting Chicago Cubs. Bravos starter Julio Teheran threw the ball well with a pair of runs given up on five hits and four bases on balls through six innings to get the loss while Ian Krol gave up two more runs over 1.2 innings. That was too much for the Atlanta offense to overcome with three hits and a walk resulting in an RBI double from Brandon Phillips that scored Ender Inciarte. The Atlanta Braves hand the ball to rookie Sean Newcomb for his first career start versus the Chicago Cubs. Newcomb is coming off of a 10-5 defeat at the Washington Nationals with four runs scoring on four hits and four bases on balls over four frames.
Chicago are 42-18 in their last 60 Tuesday games and Chicago are 7-15 in their last 22 road games. The under is 12-3-2 in Atlanta last 17 home games and the over is 13-4 in Atlanta last 17 Tuesday games while Atlanta are 23-48 in their last 71 Tuesday games. The under is 7-2-1 in the last 10 meetings in Atlanta and Chicago are 9-3 in the last 12 meetings.
I think the pitching match up is not great so I’ll side with the bats of Chicago…
