MLB baseball comes to Citi Field Wednesday when the New York Mets host the St. Louis Cardinals.
The St. Louis Cardinals haven’t had a typical season thus far but the team is a hot streak away from making NL Central leader Milwaukee squirm. The Cardinals picked up a game in the standings with a 5-0 victory at the Mets Tuesday for their 5th win in seven contests. Cards starter Michael Wacha tossed a gem with eight strikeouts in a complete game three hit shutout. St. Louis pounded out 12 hits and walked once with Matt Carpenter going 4-5 with an RBI and a run while Wacha helped himself by driving in a run and scoring. The St. Louis Cardinals are scheduled to send Mike Leake to the mound to face the New York Mets on Wednesday. Leake did not receive a decision in a 5-2 loss at the Pittsburgh Pirates last time out with two runs given up on seven hits and five BB in five frames.

If the New York Mets are going to reach .500 this season the team had better start winning now. The Mets struggles continued for another day with their defense and offense letting them down as the team fell for the 8th time in eleven games in Tuesday's loss. New York starter Rafael Montero was charged with four runs (two earned) on seven hits and a base on balls through six innings of work to absorb the loss. The Mets mustered just three hits with Michael Conforto logging a single and double while Yoenis Cespedes recorded a base hit but only three players reached base. The New York Mets are hoping Jacob deGrom stays hot when he toes the rubber versus the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday. DeGrom has won six in a row capped off by a 14-2 rout of the Colorado Rockies where he gave up two runs (one earned) and struck out eleven in eight frames.
St. Louis are 19-7 in their last 26 versus the NL East and the under is 5-0-1 in St. Louis last 6 overall while the under is 3-0-1 in St. Louis last 4 road games. The over is 9-3 in New York last 12 Wednesday games and New York are 3-7 in their last 10 overall while New York are 3-7 in their last 10 games on grass. The over is 5-2-1 in the last 8 meetings.
The hotter team or the hot pitcher? I don’t see this as a clear cut match up but perhaps small on St. Louis…
