The Texas Rangers and the Baltimore Orioles will meet at Camden Yards on Thursday in the series finale of their four game division set.
The Texas Rangers come into this looking to avoid the sweep after being outscored 25-4 in the first three games of this series, including a 10-2 loss in game three on Wednesday. Joey Gallo put up a solo homer and Robinson Chirinos added an RBI of his own while Adrian Beltre added a double and Shin-Soo Choo went 2 for 5 putting up the lone multi-hit game for the Rangers in the loss. Mike Napoli, Rougned Odor and Carlos Gomez also contributed base hits in the losing effort for Texas. Martin Perez took the loss, falling to 5-7 this season after giving up five runs , four earned, on seven hits while striking out three over six innings of work. Cole Hamels will start game four and is 4-0 with a 3.05 ERA and 33 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hamels is 1-3 with a 4.32 ERA and 34 strikeouts against Baltimore.
USA TODAY Sports
The Baltimore Orioles will look to complete the sweep after their win on Wednesday. Trey Mancini and Jonathan Schoop each contributed three RBIs, while Mancini went 2 for 4 with a triple, Schoop went 3 for 4 at the plate with a double. Adam Jones went 3 for 5 with a home run and two RBIs, while Manny Machado added an RBI of his own and Caleb Joseph went 2 for 4 with a double. Kevin Gausman got the win to improve to 6-7 this season, giving up just one run on four hits while striking out eight over six innings of work. Wade Miley will start game four and is 4-8 with a 5.40 ERA and 84 strikeouts this season. In his career, Miley is 1-5 with a 5.75 ERA and 42 strikeouts against Texas.
Texas is 3-7 in their last 10 road games and 25-4 in Hamels’ last 29 starts against a team with a losing record while the under is 7-2-1 in their last 10 games overall. Baltimore is 1-4 in Miley’s last 5 starts and 9-20 in their last 29 games against the AL West while the over is 4-1 in Miley’s last 5 home starts. Texas is 1-5 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
Texas hasn’t given us any reason to back them going into the finale, however Hamels is still a staff ace with a cheap price tag, and has been money against teams with a losing record. Hamels hasn’t had much success against Baltimore, but Miley has had even less success in his career against the Rangers and has given up seven runs in two of his last three starts. I think Texas will salvage a win in the finale on Thursday.
