The Blue Jays woes continued Wednesday in a 5-1 defeat at Boston that saddled the team with defeats in five of seven. The arms and bats never got going with Toronto starter Aaron Sanchez allowing all five runs (three earned) on six hits and five free passes over four frames. The Blue Jays were held to four hits and five walks with Jose Bautista cracking a sacrifice fly that plated Miguel Montero. The Toronto Blue Jays end their road series with the Boston Red Sox with left hander Francisco Liriano on the mound. Liriano absorbed an 11-1 loss at the Detroit Tigers last time out with five runs allowed on three hits and four BB in two frames.

The Boston Red Sox are sitting atop the American League East but their lead is not secure. Boston starter Drew Pomeranz allowed an unearned run on three hits and five bases on balls over 6.2 innings pitched. The Red Sox totaled seven hits and five walks with Dustin Pedroia going 2-3 with three runs knocked in while Dan Marrero drove in two and scored. The Boston Red Sox have tabbed right hander Doug Fister for Thursday’s start versus the Toronto Blue Jays. Fister comes off of a 4-1 defeat at the hands of the New York Yankees where he gave up three runs on four hits and two walks over 2.2 frames.
