Over at Dodger Stadium in LA on Thursday, the Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers will be kicking off their weekend MLB series.
The Braves are coming off a set against the Cubs this week. Atlanta lost the first two 4-3 and 5-1, then on Wednesday the Braves lost again 8-2.
The Braves will be going with RHP Mike Foltynewicz on Thursday. In his 98.1 innings and 7-5 record this year, Foltynewicz has a 3.84 ERA with 87 Ks and 34 BBs.
Atlanta has a few notable hitters this year. Ender Inciarte brought 119 hits, 64 runs and 37 RBI into Wednesday, while Nick Markakis had 97 hits, 48 runs and 47 RBI in that time. On Wednesday, Inciarte homered and had two hits; Markakis had a knock as a pinch hitter.
As for the Dodgers, they just finished up against the White Sox. LA won on Tuesday 1-0, then on Wednesday the Dodgers kept it going with a rain-shortened 9-1 victory.
The Dodgers have some solid hitters as well. Corey Seager brought 93 hits, 58 runs, 14 homers and 46 RBI into Wednesday, while Justin Turner had 90 hits, 42 runs, 11 homers and 39 RBI in that time. Turner put up two hits and an RBI on Wednesday; Seager slapped a homer with three hits and three RBI.
The Braves are 15-5 in the last 20 versus the NL West, and 6-2 in the last eight during game one of a series. Atlanta is also 4-0 in Foltynewicz’s last four starts in game one of a series, and 7-0 in Foltynewicz’s last seven starts.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers are 17-5 in their last 22 during game one of a series, and 5-2 in their last seven Thursday game. LA is also 8-0 in McCarthy’s last eight starts with five days’ rest, and 15-3 in McCarthy’s last 18 home starts.
Over his last two games, Foltynewicz has allowed five earned on 16 hits over the course of 11.1 innings. As for McCarthy, he’s been a little shaky, giving up four earned in two of his last three starts, a total of eight earned in 7.2 innings on 11 hits. Still, with the way the Dodgers have been playing lately I can’t pick against them. Give me LA here.
