MLB baseball comes to the Big Apple when the Oakland Athletics take the field with the New York Mets on Friday.
The Oakland Athletics are last in the American League West as the losing streaks have outnumbered the hot streaks. The Athletics will be searching for consecutive victories following a 7-2 decision over the visiting Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday. The A’s put everything together with starter Sonny Gray upping his record to 6-4 with both runs given up on seven hits and two free passes over 6.1 innings. Oakland pounded out eleven hits and walked five times with Matt Joyce slugging a two run bomb while Bruce Maxwell, Jaycob Brugman and Rajai Davis each drove in a run and scored. The Oakland Athletics send rookie hurler Paul Blackburn to the bump versus the New York Mets for his 4th start of the season. Blackburn did not get a decision in 5-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians with all three runs scoring on five hits and four BB over six frames.

The New York Mets season has gotten out of hand and has left the team with a .500 finish as their lone achievable goal. The Mets have taken a few steps towards their goal with back to back victories following a 3-2 win versus the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday. New York starter Seth Lugo allowed a run on four hits and a walk over 6.2 innings with Erik Goeddel serving up a solo homer before Addison Russell threw a scoreless 9th to get the win. The Mets did their damage on six hits and a pair of walks with Wilmer Flores and Lucas Duda cracking solo bombs while Jose Reyes singled in Yoenis Cespedes. Steve Matz has been tabbed as the New York Mets starter against the Oakland Athletics who he has never faced. Matz has struggled the past two outings in defeats to Colorado and St. Louis with 12 runs given up on 16 hits and two BB over 5.1 frames.
Oakland are 9-23 in their last 32 interleague games and Oakland are 6-15 in their last 21 Friday games while Oakland are 12-27 in their last 39 road games. New York are 7-2 in their last 9 interleague games and the over is 33-15-6 in New York last 54 home games while the over is 53-26-11 in New York last 90 on grass. Oakland are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings in New York and Oakland are 3-8 in the last 11 meetings.
We really don’t know what Blackburn is going to do with little experience to lean on and Matz hasn’t been throwing well. Probably good to look elsewhere…
