The Philadelphia Phillies host the Milwaukee Brewers in their series opener in MLB baseball on Friday.
Things have been getting tight for the NL Central leading Milwaukee Brewers who have been struggling the past week. The Brewers struggles continued Thursday in a 4-2 defeat at Pittsburgh for loss number five in a row. The Brew Crew pitching and offense both came up short with starter Jimmy Nelson allowing all four runs on six hits and a walk over five innings of work to fall to 8-5. The Brewers logged nine hits and four bases on balls with Brett Phillips and Orlando Arcia driving in runs while Hernan Perez and Manny Pina scored. The Milwaukee Brewers open their series at Philadelphia with Matt Garza on the hill who faces the Phillies for the second straight time. Garza did not receive a decision versus the Phils with a run given up on three hits and three BB over five frames.

The season has been anything but kind to the Philadelphia Phillies as they have struggled since opening day. The Phillies have won back to back games and three of four overall after a rare display of offense in a 10-3 rout of the Miami Marlins on Wednesday. Phils starter Nick Pivetta allowed all three runs on five hits including a pair of homers through 5.1 innings to up his record to 3-5. Philadelphia racked up a season high 20 hits and walked six times with Maikel Franco, Nick Williams and Daniel Nava combining for eight hits, seven RBI’s and three runs. Cesar Hernandez, Freddy Galvis and Andrew Knapp gave the Phillies another eight hits and seven runs as each regular reached base. Aaron Nola toes the rubber for the Philadelphia Phillies in the series opener versus the Milwaukee Brewers. Nola opposes the Brewers for the second straight time after a 3-2 loss (ND) where he gave up a pair of runs on seven hits and two BB in six frames.
Milwaukee are 0-4 in their last 4 versus a right hander and Milwaukee are 5-2 in their last 7 versus the NL East while Milwaukee are 6-14 in Garza’s last 20 road starts. The under is 9-1-2 in Philadelphia last 12 home games and the under is 10-3-1 in Philadelphia last 14 overall while the under is 10-3-1 in Philadelphia last 14 on grass. Milwaukee are 12-5 in the last 17 meetings.
My thinking is Nola is the best the Phillies have and if they are going to win one against the Brewers this is it. Of course, the Phillies have to score which is no guarantee…
