For the Saturday game, the Pirates will be bringing out RHP Chad Kuhl for the start. In his 91.0 innings and 3-6 record this year, Kuhl has a 4.85 ERA with 76 Ks and 38 BBs.
Pittsburgh has some solid hitters this year. Coming into this set, Andrew McCutchen brought 98 hits, 58 runs, 17 homers and 53 RBI while Josh Harrison had 96 hits, 42 runs, 11 homers and 32 RBI. On Friday, McCutchen Bagged three hits, three runs and three RBI, while Harrison had a hit and two runs.
Over on the Rockies’ side, they’re rolling with RHP German Marquez in the start. Over his 83.0 innings and 7-4 record this year, Marquez has a 4.34 ERA with 76 Ks and 28 BBs.
Colorado has some big hitters as well. Carlos Blackmon led the way coming into this series with 129 hits, 82 runs, 23 homers and 67 RBI while Nolan Arenado had 116 hits, 63 runs, 21 homers and 80 RBI. In Friday’s game, Arenado homered with two runs and two RBI; Blackmon had a run.
The Pirates are 8-2 in their last 10 during game two of a series, and 9-3 in their last 12 Saturday games. Pittsburgh is also 3-7 in Kuhl’s last 10 road starts and 3-9 in Kuhl’s last 12 starts with four days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Rockies are 1-7 in their last eight during game two of a series, and 0-4 in their last four Saturday games. Colorado is also 5-0 in Marquez’s last five home starts and 9-3 in Marquez’s last 12 starts.
Over his last four starts, Kuhl has been very solid, posting a combined six earned in that time. As for Marquez, He’s given up three earned in each of his last three starts, but has gone 13.2 innings over his last pair. This should be an interesting one to watch, but with the way Kuhl has been throwing lately I think he’ll give the Pirates a decent chance to take this one.
