We have an interleague battle for Chicago between the White Sox and the Cubs at Wrigley Field to kick off a three game set on Monday.
The Chicago White Sox could definitely use a win to snap an ugly nine game losing streak after a 5-4 loss in their series finale against the Royals on Sunday. The loss gave the Sox their fifth one run loss in their last seven outings. Adam Engel led the team by going 1 for 4 with a bases clearing double in the 5th inning for his three RBIs. Jose Abreu added an RBI double of his own, going 2 for 3 at the dish in the loss. Matt Davidson and Yolmer Sanchez each notched a double of their own, while Avisail Garcia, Omar Narvaez and Tyler Saladino each added base hits of their own in the loss. Derek Holland gave up three runs on four hits while walking three over 4.2 innings of work, not factoring in the decision. Dan Jennings gave up the game-tying home run for his 1st blown save of the year while Gregory Infante was responsible for the run that walked off the Sox, taking the loss to fall to 0-1 this season. Miguel Gonzalez will start game one and is 4-9 with a 4.89 ERA and 50 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gonzalez is 0-1 with a 2.77 ERA and 11 strikeouts against the Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs will be looking to stay hot after winning eight of their last nine games following a 5-3 win over the Cardinals in their series finale on Sunday Night Baseball, thus leapfrogging the Brewers for the lead in the NL Central. Willson Contreras and Kyle Schwarber each went yard, with Contreras’ two runs hot being the eventual game-winning RBI. Kris Bryant added an RBI single and Jason Heyward added an RBI double to round out the scoring for the Cubs in the win. Addison Russell also added a double of his own as the Cubs put up just six hits as a team in the win. Jose Quintana improved to 2-0 as a Cub, getting the win after allowing all three runs on five hits while walking a pair and striking out seven over six innings of work. Wade Davis threw a scoreless 9th for his 20th save of the campaign. Kyle Hendricks will be making his first start since June 4th in game one, and is 4-3 with a 4.09 ERA and 51 strikeouts this season. In his career, Hendricks is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA and 14 strikeouts against the White Sox.
The White Sox are 0-6 in Gonzalez’s last 6 starts and 1-8 in their last 9 interleague road games while the under is 3-0-2 in their last 5 games against the NL Central. The Cubs are 23-11 in Hendricks’ last 34 starts and 8-1 in their last 9 games overall while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 interleague games. The under is 3-0-2 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
Even with Hendricks making his first start in almost two months, I can’t go away from the Cubs here. The White Sox are a dumpster fire right now, and the Cubs are rolling and brimming with confidence after catching the Brewers and passing them in the standings for the time being. Not to mention the White Sox haven’t had much success with Gonzalez on the hill lately, so I like the Cubs to push the White Sox losing skid to double digits with a big win in game one.
