The New York Mets need every possible win in order to reach .500 and stay there as that’s what their season has come down to. The Mets were heading in the right direction with four consecutive victories before their offense went silent in a 3-2 defeat at the hands of the visiting Oakland Athletics on Sunday afternoon. New York starter Rafael Montero absorbed the loss and fell to 1-7 with all three runs allowed on solo homers over seven innings. The Mets attack consisted of six hits and a pair of bases on balls with Michael Conforto going deep while Jose Reyes drove in Jay Bruce. The New York Mets open their series at the San Diego Padres with Jacob deGrom on the mound on Monday. DeGrom has been red hot with quality starts in six of his last seven starts where he has given up only five runs in that stretch to up his record to 11-3 with a 3.37 ERA.
