For the Tuesday game, Danny Duffy will be coming out for the Royals. In his 94.2 innings and 6-6 record this year, Duffy has a 3.71 ERA with 75 Ks and 27 BBs.
The Royals have some pretty big hitters this year. Eric Hosmer came into this set with 116 hits, 56 runs, 15 homers and 47 RBI, while Mike Moustakas had 97 hits, 49 runs, 28 homers and 62 RBI. On Monday, Hosmer came up empty but Moustakas managed a homer with two RBI.
Over on the Tigers’ side, they’re going with RHP Michael Fulmer on Tuesday. In his 126.1 innings and 10-7 record this year, Fulmer has a 3.35 ERA with 89 Ks and 28 BBs.
Detroit has some key hitters as well. Justin Upton entered this series with 92 hits, 59 runs, 16 homers and 61 RBI while Nick Castellanos had 91 hits, 49 runs, 14 homers and 54 RBI. On Monday, Upton posted one hit; Castellanos came up empty.
The Royals are 16-5 in their last 21 during game two of a series, and 1-4 in their last five games versus a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15. KC is also 3-8 in Duffy’s last 11 road starts and 1-7 in Duffy’s last eight starts versus the AL Central.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 4-1 in their last five games versus a left-handed starter, and 2-7 in their last nine during game two of a series. Detroit is also 4-1 in Fulmer’s last five starts and 10-3 in Fulmer’s last 13 home starts.
Duffy has been pretty hit-and-miss lately. In three of his last five starts, he’s allowed 15 earned. In the other two, he’s given up just three in 14.0 innings. As for Fulmer, He had a nice run going for a half-dozen starts, but then gave up five earned in 2.2 innings against KC in his last start. I like Fulmer to bounce back here, though, so I’ll take Detroit in what will probably be a close game.
