The Arizona Diamondbacks host the Atlanta Braves in the rubber match of their three game set on Wednesday afternoon.
The Atlanta Braves will look to take the series after evening up the set at one game apiece following an 8-3 win over the D-Backs on Tuesday. Kurt Suzuki led the charge, going 2 for 4 with a pair of home runs and three RBIs in the win. Matt Kemp also went 2 for 4, belting out a solo home run in addition to his first triple of the year. Johan Camargo also went yard, while Matt Adams added an RBI of his own in the win. Ender Inciarte, Freddie Freeman and even starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz added base hits of their own in the winning effort for Atlanta. Speaking of Foltynewicz, he got the win to improve to 9-5 this season after giving up a pair of runs on five hits while walking three and striking out nine over six innings of work. Aaron Blair will start the series finale and will be making his season debut as well. Last year, Blair was 2-7 with a 7.59 ERA and 46 strikeouts last season. In his career, Blair is 0-1 with a 3.60 ERA and 1 strikeout against Arizona.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to bounce back and take the series after dropping game two on Tuesday. Starting pitcher Taijuan Walker went 2 for 2 with a solo home run while Chris Owings added an RBI and a double along with Paul Goldschmidt’s RBI as part of a 2 for 4 day at the plate. A.J. Pollock added a pair of base hits while J.D Martienz added a base knock of his own in the loss for Arizona. Speaking of Walker, he gave up two runs, one earned, on three hits while striking out six over six innings of work, not factoring in the decision. J.J. Hoover gave up four runs, three earned, in just 0.1 innings, taking the loss to fall to 1-1 this season. Patrick Corbin will start game three and is 7-9 with a 4.43 ERA and 107 strikeouts this season. In his career, Corbin is 3-0 with a 0.59 ERA and 28 strikeouts against Atlanta.
Atlanta is 2-6 in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record and 1-4 in their last 5 games against a left-handed starter while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games overall. Arizona is 1-5 in Corbin’s last 6 starts and 39-17 in their last 56 home games while the over is 11-3-1 in Corbin’s last 15 starts against the NL East. Atlanta is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I’m not a big fan of backing pitchers making their debut this late in the season, and Blair wasn’t even good in his limited action last season, posting an ERA well over seven. Corbin hasn’t been great this year, but Arizona is one of the best home teams in the league, and Corbin has a sparkling 0.59 ERA and a perfect 3-0 record in his career against the Braves. Gotta take Arizona here to win the series.
