The Kansas City Royals and the Detroit Tigers face off in AL Central division action on Wednesday as they close out their three game set on Wednesday.
The Kansas city Royals come into this one looking to complete the sweep after a 3-1 win in game two on Tuesday gave the Royals their seventh consecutive victory. Whit Merrifield put up a solo home run while Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas chipped in RBIs of their own in the winning effort. Jorge Bonifacio went 2 for 4 while Salvador Perez, Brandon Moss and Alex Gordon each added respective base hits in the win. Danny Duffy got the victory to improve to 7-6 this season, giving up just the one run on six hits while striking out four over 6.1 innings of work. Peter Moylan and Joakim Soria set the table for Kelvin Herrera to get his 21st save of the year, throwing a perfect 9th inning. Ian Kennedy will start game three and is 3-6 with a 4.61 ERA and 86 strikeouts this season. In his career, Kennedy is 2-4 with a 4.34 ERA and 37 strikeouts against Detroit.

The Detroit Tigers will be looking to avoid the sweep after Tuesday’s loss gave the Tigers their fifth loss in their last seven outings. James McCann accounted for the lone run on the board for Detroit, while Mikie Mahtook added a triple and Victor Martinez went 2 for 3 with a double. Miguel Cabrera went 2 for 4 while Justin Upton and Andrew Romine each added a base knock in the loss. Michael Fulmer took the loss, falling to 10-8 this season after giving up all three runs on eight hits while striking out six over eight innings of work. Anibal Sanchez will start game three and is 2-0 with a 6.59 ERA and 52 strikeouts this season. In his career, Sanchez is 6-4 with a 2.66 ERA and 59 strikeouts against Kansas City.
Kansas City is 7-1 in Kennedy’s last 8 starts and 7-0 in their last 7 games overall while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 road games. Detroit is 4-0 in Sanchez’s last 4 starts and 7-15 in their last 22 games against a right-handed starter while the over is 33-16-1 in their last 52 division matchups. Detroit is 7-3 in Sanchez’s last 10 starts against Kansas City.
Is it just me who thinks this line is a tad backwards? We are getting the much hotter team with a slight edge on the mound at even money here. Sure Kennedy hasn’t been great this season, but the Royals have won seven of his last eight starts, and Kennedy himself hasn’t taken the loss in any of those eight starts. Sanchez is still unreliable and has an ERA well over six this season, so I think the Royals and the even money are a strong play on Wednesday to complete the sweep.
