The Reds have a few notable hitters this year. Joey Votto came into this set with 104 hits, 65 runs, 26 homers and 69 RBI, while Brandon Hamilton had 100 hits, 61 runs and 25 RBI. Hamilton had a hit and an RBI on Tuesday; Votto came up empty.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they’re going with RHP Luis Severino on Wednesday. In his 120.2 innings and 6-4 record this year, Severino has a 3.21 ERA with 136 Ks and 30 BBs.
New York has some noteworthy hitters as well. Aaron Judge led the way coming into this set with 105 hits, 79 runs, 32 homers and 73 RBI, while Starlin Castro—who is currently injured—is sitting on 97 hits, 52 runs, 12 homers and 45 RBI. On Tuesday, Judge put up a hit and a run.
The Reds are 5-2 in their last seven during game two of a series, and 5-0 in Bailey’s last five Wednesday starts. Cincinnati is also 2-6 in Bailey’s last eight starts and 1-9 in Bailey’s last 10 starts in game two of a series.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 4-0 in the last four during game two of a series, and 14-6 in their last 20 Wednesday games. New York is also 4-1 in Severino’s last five home starts and 5-2 in Severino’s last seven starts with five days’ rest.
Bailey gave up a whopping eight runs on eight hits in 4.0 innings against the Nationals, but bounced bak pretty well with 6.0 innings, eight hits and two earned against Miami in his last outing. As for Severino, he had a rough start in Houston and was okay against Milwaukee, then in the two games since he’s given up just one earned in 14.0 innings. Severino has gone at least 7.0 innings in four of his last five starts. If he can keep it going, New York should be in line for a win here.
