The Oakland Athletics end their series at the Toronto Blue Jays with Thursday afternoon MLB baseball action.
The Oakland Athletics look to be in the role of spoiler as the season goes forward as the much needed hot streak hasn’t come. The only thing that the Athletics spoiled Wednesday was a win for starter Paul Blackburn in a 3-2 defeat at Toronto. Blackburn gave the A’s seven scoreless innings with two hits and three BB allowed but did not get a decision when Santiago Castilla served up a two homer to blow a 2-0 lead before surrendering a solo bomb to absorb the loss without recording an out in the 9th. Oakland was held to three hits and five free passes with Marcus Semien launching a two run homer in the 5th. The Oakland Athletics end their series at the Toronto Blue Jays with left hander Sean Manaea on the mound. Manaea struggled last time out in a 6-5 loss at the New York Mets with four runs scoring on ten hits and a BB over 5.2 innings of work.

Every time the Toronto Blue Jays win a few games they lose a few and don’t move forward and that trend must end. The Blue Jays could be on their way to a long hot streak after Wednesday’s victory gave the team three straight wins. The Jays rode some late homers and outstanding work on the mound with starter Marco Estrada allowing both runs on three hits and four bases on balls through five innings before four relievers held the Athletics off the scoreboard. The Toronto offense did absolutely nothing until the 9th where Josh Donaldson walked and scored on a Justin Smoak homer followed by Kendrys Morales and his walk off bomb. The Toronto Blue Jays send a red hot Marcus Stroman to the bump to oppose the Oakland Athletics for the first since 2016. Stroman comes off of a 2-1 loss (ND) at the Cleveland Indians where he gave up a run on five hits and five BB in 7.2 frames.
The over is 8-3-1 in Oakland last 12 on astroturf and Oakland are 18-38 in their last 56 road games. The over is 8-1 in Toronto last 9 Thursday games and Toronto are 10-4 in Stroman’s last 14 starts. Oakland are 1-10 in the last 11 meetings in Toronto and the under is 8-3-1 in the last 12 meetings in Toronto.
Stroman is the best the Blue Jays have and he needs to show it to keep the team hot and alive in the Wild Card race…
