The Mets will be bringing out RHP Rafael Montero on Friday. In his 52.0 innings and 1-7 record this year, Montero has a 5.19 ERA with 52 Ks and 26 BBs.
New York has a few key hitters this year. Jay Bruce came into Thursday with 97 hits, 57 runs, 25 homers and 67 RBI, while Michael Conforto had 79 hits, 55 runs, 19 homers and 52 RBI. Bruce popped a homer on Thursday; Conforto had two hits and two runs.
As for the Mariners, they played the Red Sox this week. Seattle won the first two but lost on Wednesday in the finale 4-0.
Seattle will be rolling with LHP Ariel Miranda on Friday. In his 115.0 innings and 7-4 record this year, Miranda has a 4.30 ERA with 88 Ks and 39 BBs.
The Mariners have some solid bats as well. Jean Segura leads the way on 101 hits, 45 runs and 32 RBI. Ben Gamel has come on lately and now sits on 100 hits, 52 runs and 35 RBI.
The Mets are 5-0 in their last five Friday games, and 4-1 in their last five during game one of a series. New York is also 1-4 in Montero’s last five starts and 0-4 in Montero’s last four starts with four days’ rest.
Meanwhile, the Mariners are 4-1 in their last five Friday games, and 11-4 in their last 15 during game one of a series. Seattle is also 4-0 in Miranda’s last four interleague starts, and 4-1 in Miranda’s last five starts with five days’ rest.
Over his last handful of starts, Montero has been pretty good. He’s given up five earned on 14 hits in 13.0 innings across his last two outings, but they were both losses. As for Miranda, He coughed up 11 earned in a span of 10.2 innings over two starts, but calmed down a bit in his last outing with 5.1 innings and two earned. This game is kind of a toss-up, but I don’t really trust Miranda right now. I’ll take the Mets, but I’m staying away from this one.
