The Washington Nationals welcome the Colorado Rockies to town for an MLB baseball series opener on Saturday after being rained out on Friday.
The Colorado Rockies have plenty of time to overtake the National League West leading Los Angeles Dodgers but the team is fighting to maintain their position in the Wild Card race. The Rockies have dropped three in a row in a 10-5 defeat at the St. Louis Cardinals where the pitching couldn’t control the scoreboard. Colorado starter Jeff Hoffman fell to 6-3 with seven runs allowed (six earned) on seven hits and three BB over four frames while Jordan Lyles and Tyler Chatwood gave up three runs between them. The Rockies totaled nine hits and two walks with Nolan Arenado going 3-3 with a homer, three RBI’s and three runs while Gerardo Parra knocked in two. The Colorado Rockies begin their road series at the Washington Nationals with German Marquez on the mound. Marquez has won three in a row after downing the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-3 with a pair of runs allowed on three hits and two BB over seven frames.

Washington amassed 19 hits and five walks with Anthony Rendon going deep and scoring twice while Jose Loboton homered and drove in three followed by Brian Goodwin with a homer, two RBI’s and two runs. Washington hands the ball to Tanner Roark for Friday’s start versus the Colorado Rockies. On the year Roark is 8-6 with a 4.83 ERA.
