Out at Busch Stadium on Sunday afternoon, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the St. Louis Cardinals will be finishing up their MLB weekend series.
The two teams split the first pair of games here, then on Saturday the D-Backs took a convincing 7-1 win.
USA TODAY Sports
For the Sunday game, the Diamondbacks will be bringing out RHP Taijuan Walker. In his 93.1 innings and 6-4 record this year, Walker has a 3.47 ERA with 82 Ks and 33 BBs.
Arizona has some big hitters this year. Paul Goldschmidt entered the weekend on 115 hits, 81 runs, 21 homers and 75 RBI while David Peralta had 104 hits, 55 runs, 10 homers and 34 RBI. On Saturday, Peralta came up empty but Goldschmidt had a homer and three RBI.
Over on the Cardinals’ side, they’re rolling with RHP Lance Lynn on Sunday. In his 120.2 innings and 8-6 record this year, Lynn has a 3.21 ERA with 107 Ks and 41 BBs.
St. Louis has a few notable bats as well. Jed Gyorko led the way coming into the weekend with 91 hits, 38 runs, 14 homers and 52 RBI, while Yadier Molina had 89 hits, 35 runs, 10 homers and 44 RBI. In Saturday’s game, Gyorko and Molina combined to go 0-for-7.
The Diamondbacks are 5-2 in Walker’s last seven road starts, and 5-2 in Walker’s last seven starts following a quality start in his last appearance. The under is 5-0-1 in the D-Backs’ last six Sunday games, and the over is 9-3 in Arizona’s last 12 during game four of a series.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 2-7 in Lynn’s last nine starts in game four of a series and the under is 4-1 in St. Louis’ last five during game four of a series. The over is 35-14-5 in the Cardinals’ last 54 Sunday games, and the under is 4-1 in Lynn’s last five home starts.
Aside from a hiccup against the Reds, Walker has been very solid over his last several starts. He’s given up three earned in 12.0 innings on eight hits in his last two outings. As for Lynn, he’s been great as well, giving up a total of two earned across his last four starts (25.1 innings). If he can get some offensive support, I like Lynn to help get the Cards a win here.
