The Baltimore Orioles and the Texas Rangers face off in the rubber match of their three game set on Sunday.
The Baltimore Orioles come into this one looking to win the series after snapping a three game losing skid with a 4-0 win over the Rangers in game two on Saturday. Trey Mancini led the way with a pair of RBIs, going 1 for 4 with a home run, while Caleb Joseph also went 1 for 4 while putting up a solo homer of his own. Seth Smith added an RBI as well, while Adam Jones and Jonathan Schoop each notched a double. Manny Machado also contributed a base hit as the O’s put up just six hits as a team in the win. Kevin Gausman was one out away from a complete game, throwing 8.2 innings of seven hit, shutout baseball, walking three and striking out eight to improve to 8-7 this season, while Zach Britton notched his 7th save of the campaign. Wade Miley will get the start and is 4-9 with a 5.69 ERA and 91 strikeouts this season. In his career, Miley is 1-5 with a 6.11 ERA and 45 strikeouts against Texas.

The Texas Rangers will look to bounce back after dropping game two on Saturday, continuing an alternating streak of wins and losses for the sixth straight game. Shin-Soo Choo and Rougned Odor each logged a pair of base hits while Elvis Andrus, Adrian Beltre and Carlos Gomez put up one hit each in the loss. The Rangers put up just seven hits as a team, with none of them going for extra bases. Austin Bibens-Dirkx suffered his first loss of the season, giving up all four runs on six hits while walking three over five innings of work, falling to 3-1 on the year. Martin Perez will start game three and is 5-8 with a 4.67 ERA and 71 strikeouts this season. In his career, Perez is 2-2 with a 4.70 ERA and 22 strikeouts against Baltimore.
Baltimore is 1-5 in Miley’s last 6 road starts and 10-26 in their last 36 road games while the over is 7-1 in their last 8 games following a win. Texas is 18-6 in Perez’s last 24 home starts against a team with a losing record and 1-4 in their last 5 games against a left-handed starter while the over is 5-2 in Perez’s last 7 home starts. Baltimore is 2-8 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams in Texas.
Miley is one of the few pitchers in the majors that I auto-fade every time he is on the mound and it has paid off most nights. Miley’s given up a combined 25 earned runs over his last five starts covering 23 innings of work and has an ERA over six in his career against Texas. Those numbers spell doom for Baltimore as Texas will probably have a breakout game after being shutout on Saturday, so I’ll take Texas for the win on Sunday.
