The Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees face off on Monday in game one of their three game set at Yankee Stadium.
The Detroit Tigers will look to build on a pair of back-to-back wins to take the series against the Astros, including a 13-1 win in the series finale on Sunday. Justin Upton stole the show, going 4 for 5 at the dish with a home run, a double and six RBIs. James McCann added a homer of his own, going 3 for 4 with three RBIs while Dixon Machado, Mikie Mahtook, Miguel Cabrera and Jose Iglesias each put a run on the board, with Mahtook and Cabrera each chipping in a double as well. Alex Avila and Andrew Romine added base hits as well in the win. Justin Verlander got the win to improve to 6-7 this season after throwing six innings of five hit, shutout baseball, walking three and striking out six for the W. Michael Fulmer will start game one and is 10-8 with a 3.35 ERA and 95 strikeouts this season. In his career, Fulmer is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 3 strikeouts against the Yankees.

The New York Yankees will be looking to bounce back after having their six game winning streak snapped, thanks to a 5-3 loss in their series finale against the Rays. Ronald Torreyes did the bulk of the damage, notching all three Yankee runs while going 2 for 4 at the plate with a homer and a double. Brett Gardner and Clint Frazier each added a base hit of their own as New York put up just four hits as a team in the loss. Jordan Montgomery lasted just 2.2 innings, giving up four runs on six hits while walking a pair and striking out five, taking the loss to fall to 7-6 this season. Luis Severino will get the nod in the series opener and is 7-4 with a 3.03 ERA and 145 strikeouts this season. In his career, Severino is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA and 5 strikeouts against Detroit.
Detroit is 10-3 in Fulmer’s last 13 starts against the AL East and 7-19 in their last 26 road games against a right-handed starter while the over is 8-3-1 in their last 12 road games. New York is 6-2 in their last 8 games overall and 4-0 in Severino’s last 4 starts while the under is 5-1 in Severino’s last 6 starts against the AL Central. The under is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams in New York.
Severino has been dominant, throwing back-to-back shutouts and giving up just one run in his last three starts covering 21 innings of work. Fulmer on the other hand, has given up three runs or less in seven of his last eight starts. The plus money is tempting here, but I’m too worried that Severino might throw another gem. I’m expecting both pitchers to show up for this one, so I’ll side with the under which has been a recurring theme between these two teams in the Bronx.
