One of the marquee series kicking off on Tuesday goes down at Fenway Park as the Arizona Diamondbacks take on the Chicago Cubs in game one of their three game set.
The Arizona Diamondbacks will look to bounce back after failing to win the series against the Cardinals, falling 3-2 in the series finale on Sunday, earning the split with St. Louis. Daniel Descalso went 1 for 2 with a pinch-hit double and an RBI while Chris Iannetta added an RBI of his own in the loss. Ketel Marte went 1 for 4 with a double while Jake Lamb, J.D. Martinez and Gregor Blanco each chipped in base hits in the loss. Taijuan Walker took the loss, falling to 6-5 this season after giving up all three runs on four hits while walking three and striking out ten over 5.2 innings of work. Patrick Corbin will start game one and is 8-9 with a 4.36 ERA and 112 strikeouts this season. In his career, Corbin is 3-0 with a 3.15 ERA and 17 strikeouts against the Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs will look to stay hot after winning 13 of their last 16 games following a crucial 4-2 win over the Brewers in the series finale on Sunday. Kris Bryant went 2 for 4 and hit a solo home run along with a double while Victor Caratini added a solo shot of his own, his first of the season. Addison Russell and Willson Contreras added an RBI respectively while Jon Jay and Jason Heyward added base hits of their own in the win. John Lackey got the win to improve to 8-9 this season, giving up both runs on five hits while walking a pair and striking out seven over six innings of work. The Cubs’ bullpen closed things down from there, culminating with Wade Davis throwing a scoreless 9th for his 22nd save of the year. Jon Lester will start game one and is 8-6 with a 3.88 ERA and 130 strikeouts this season. In his career, Lester is 2-0 with a 4.63 ERA and 20 strikeouts against Arizona.
Arizona is 4-2 in their last 6 games overall and 4-9 in their last 13 road games while the over is 7-3 in Corbin's last 10 starts. Chicago is 13-3 in their last 16 games overall and 3-10 in their last 13 against the AL West while the under is 19-7 in Lester’s last 26 home starts. Chicago is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams.
Even though the Cubs have had a day off, this still feels like a letdown spot to me after Chicago came through with a pair of big division wins to start putting some distance between themselves and Milwaukee. Arizona hasn’t been the most consistent, but the D-Backs are in the wild card hunt and Corbin has pitched well lately, giving up three runs or less in his last nine starts, and has a 2-0 record in his career at Wrigley Field. I think the plus money with Arizona is worth a serious look here on Tuesday.
