The Washington Nationals and the Miami Marlins take the field in MLB baseball action on Tuesday.
The Washington Nationals have built a sizable lead in the National League East and are hoping to get a bit more healthy in the coming weeks. The Nationals rode their pitching in Monday’s 1-0 victory at Miami for consecutive wins. Nats starter Gio Gonzalez was at his best with one hit and three walks given up over eight scoreless frames that lowered his ERA to 2.66. Washington posted three hits and a walk with Bryce Harper rapping an RBI single that plated Brian Goodwin in the 6th inning. Max Scherzer is scheduled to be on the hill when the Washington Nationals face off with the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. Scherzer is coming off of a 15-2 win versus the Milwaukee Brewers with a run given up along with nine strikeouts over six frames.

The Miami Marlins are still alive in the NL East race on paper but a more realistic goal is finishing 2017 with a winning record. The Marlins were heading towards .500 with wins in seven of ten but the offense wasn’t able to generate anything Monday night against the visiting Washington Nationals. Miami starter Jose Urena was outstanding in defeat with the only run allowed on three hits and a base on balls allowed through eight innings of work. The Marlins attack was limited to singles off the bats of Dee Gordon and Christian Yelich and three walks. Rookie Chris O’Grady gets the starting assignment for the Miami Marlins Tuesday against the visiting Washington Nationals. O’Grady picked up a 4-1 victory over the visiting Cincinnati Reds last time out with five hits and a pair of walks allowed over seven scoreless innings.
The over is 8-2 in Washington last 10 Tuesday games and Washington are 12-5 in their last 17 road games. The over is 6-0-2 in Miami last 8 Tuesday games while Miami are 14-6 in their last 20 home games. The under is 20-8 in the last 28 meetings in Miami.
The Nationals would seem to have the advantage here on paper and hopefully it plays out that way…
