Out at O.co Coliseum on Tuesday, the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland Athletics will be continuing their MLB series.
In Monday’s opener, the A’s scored four runs in the sixth inning on the way to an 8-5 opening win.
USA TODAY Sports
For the Tuesday game, the Giants will be bringing out RHP Jeff Samardzija. In his 135.1 innings and 5-11 record this year, Samardzija has a 4.85 ERA and 146 Ks.
The Giants have a few key bats this year. Buster Posey led the way coming into this set with 107 hits, 44 runs, 11 homers and 44 RBI, while Joe Panik had 95 hits, 40 runs and 34 RBI. On Monday, Panik came up empty but Posey logged two hits, a run and an RBI.
Over on the A’s side, they’re going with LHP Sean Manaea on Tuesday. In his 113.0 innings and 8-5 record this year, Manaea has a 3.82 ERA with 110 Ks.
Oakland also has some notable bats this season. Jed Lowrie had 99 hits, 55 runs, 10 homers and 34 RBI coming into this set, while Ryon Healy had 97 hits, 40 runs, 19 homers and 58 RBI. On Monday, Lowrie and Healy combined for five hits and three RBI.
The Giants are 4-1 in their last five Tuesday games, and 2-6 in their last eight overall. The under is 4-1 in the Giants’ last five Tuesday games, and San Francisco is also 18-40 in their last 58 road games.
Meanwhile, the A’s are 3-7 in their last 10 during game two of a series, and 5-12 in their last 17 Tuesday games. The over is 9-3-1 in the A’s last 13 during game two of a series, and 8-3-1 in the A’s last 12 Tuesday games.
Samardzija must like pitching at the Coliseum, because he’s 5-2 there with a 3.15 ERA in 10 starts this year. As for Manaea, he went seven or more innings in four of his five July starts. This should be a fun pitching matchup, and probably one to stay away from. That said, I like the A’s to eke out a victory here in a low-scoring game, so the under is probably the sensible play.
